Writing Your Profile Information Not as Easy as it Looks

"Who Am I" is a Tough Question to Answer
A Closer Look at Myself
How many times have you been asked “Who are you?” If that isn’t a loaded question I don’t know what is. I have sat down many times and tried to write things about myself that would give the world a greater insight of the type of person I am. Not as easy as it looks. It requires you to dig deep and it was a lot more complicated than I thought. Ridiculous that’s all I have to say (or should I insert my favorite word from Shrek) “ridonkulous.” Simply put, I’d rather be hit in the head repeatedly by ceiling fan blades, than to ever do another self analysis. I will try to keep this simple, although I have found out that I am a pretty complex person and will warn you about my tendencies to ramble on, and on, and on. LOL
I am a person of many colors. My travels in life do not consist of traveling abroad to Palau or Pointe de Lima, sipping margaritas on the beach, breathing in the air of paradise, while planning my next trip to France. Not that I wouldn’t love to do that, the opportunity to have the luxury to do that has never shown itself (as of yet.) But first, I would have to get over my fear of flying! No, as you will learn over the coming months, mine is a Riches to Rags to I’m okay, type of story. I had plenty of obstacles to overcome and a lot of heroes along the way. I hope in the coming months to be able to share many of my life experiences and/or knowledge on certain subjects. My goal on HP is to gain experience as a writer and like many others, generate a second income. I hope to make friends along the way and also be able to make a difference (whether big or small) in someone else’s life.
I strongly believe that we have to make life happen, not just sit back and let it happen. Be an active participant. You are the one in control of your own happiness and success, not someone else. If you put that power into someone else’s hands, you will be deeply disappointed with the outcome. Trust me, I did it for years and one day when the fog cleared and I woke up from the deep slumber I apparently had been in, I got a hard slap to the back of the head with a “dumbass” remark to go with it! I guess I can say one thing, I learned a great deal and as troubled as my past may have been, I honestly wouldn’t change a thing. I wouldn’t be the person I am today without having all those experiences.
Well, that may be a tad untruthful; because I would make every second count with a loved one, if I knew it was the last time that I would see them.
Personal Facts
I stated in my profile that I am a 40 year old, divorced mother of two boys. My kids are absolutely my world and I have learned a lot from them over the years. They taught me about unconditional love, compassion, how to laugh, how to cry, be silly and love life. They are absolutely amazing and they definitely had a hand in making me who I am today! I am serious when I need to be, goofy at times, love to laugh & can find humor in just about anything. I can be brutally honest, but I try to do it in a nice way. I may not have a PhD or any significant title, but I am educated and continue to research and learn new things.
Reading was an escape from reality for me, when I was younger. I would write poems and make up short stories and would dream about becoming a big time author someday. I wanted to prove something to the world and to the people who cast me away. I wanted to have the last laugh, so to speak. But, of course, life happened. So my dreams of “making it big” never even left the ground, but providing a safe home for my children and living a simple life, has ended up being a true blessing.
I have always believed that things happen for a reason and to prove my point, I will quickly explain a series of events that have led me here to Hubpages. My friend, Andrea, received a phone call from her mother one day. Andrea’s mom is a published author and had a deadline to meet and needed help. Andrea asked if I wanted to take a trip to the Ozarks and that’s how it all started. We spent a few days helping to get everything just right for the publisher and during that time I was also able to take a much needed breather. It was peaceful. Considering that I am unemployed at the moment, due to the economy and the heavy competition in the area I live in to gain employment, I needed to re-evaluate my life. With the serene surroundings and a little help from the harmonica playing neighbor, who would serenade me during the day (priceless, by the way) while I sipped on endless cups of delicious java, I felt refreshed and a little more at peace. That tripped sparked my interest to pursue writing again. Upon returning home, I researched about Freelance Writing and Proofreading/Editing jobs on the web. This ultimately led me to the world of blogging, which led me to Hubpages. I have spent countless hours researching everything there is to know and have not even touched the bottom of the barrel, but truly hope with time and guidance I will find my way in this vast world of bloggers. (Of course, I would like to thank Andrea's mom, Ellen, for opening her beautiful home and inspiring me.)
I hope you enjoy my upcoming musings and articles, as much as I have been enjoying yours. I welcome any critiques, questions, and advice. Most of all, feel free to laugh at this crazy thing we call life.
My favorite aphorism is: May the fleas of a 1000 camels infect the crotch of the people who try to ruin your day, and may their arms be too short to scratch. Hahahaha

What a wonderful introduction. I look forward to more. Your first Hub was very well done.
Love your aphorism! It is one I had never heard before. There are so many ways to write your bio. They can either tell about you or give a glimpse into your heart. They can even do both, with a little thought.
I remember reading through about 200 bios on here, before deciding how to write mine... At the moment it is in need of work.
WOw....great story about you. I learn much by reading your life experience. I believe you are great mother and good writer. Thank you very much. Two thumbs up for you. I hope the best for you.

I feel as if I've been having coffee with a friend after reading this. It's a wonderful introduction. "I am a person of many colors" - I love that description.
Great introduction. I guess I need to get over and do something with my profile ;)
I have always hated telling, or writing about myself also. It is very difficult to put into words who you are. Humans are so complicated that a few words just don't seem fitting. That is why mine is a few short facts. I like your style of telling much better.
I agree with you about writing profile information. I, too was having a hard time on what to write, where to begin and how it would end. Seems like I don't know much about myself because of the complexities in life I'm experiencing.
Thanks for sharing this experience of yours. I thought I'm alone in this regard.
The "Who Am I" question always stumps me, so I'm definitely in awe of those who can impart the essence of themselves in a few hundred words (or less).
Instead, in addition to my own pennings about subjects that interest (or offend) me, I sprinkle bits of my "essence" around HP and Blogland in the form of comments on, or in reply to, the writings of others. Someday I'll revisit each site, gather them up, and compile them in a 3-ring binder titled "Who I Am".
Looking forward to more hubs by you (No pressure there...) ;D
Wonderful hub. Coffee, reading and unemployed, sounds like my life. Looking forward to more hubs from you.
Well, Angel Face, you got me with the introduction to your profile. You have something, that IT which should lead to success. And having JamaGenee's seal of approval definitely means a lot :-)) - Look forward to reading more from you :D
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this! It is indeed a fine line between saying too little and saying too much. What you have said makes one feel 'comfortable' with you and your writing! Many write hubs that are just trying too hard instead of being themselves. I think you have it just right!
you are a renaissance woman, a survivor, open-minded and a wonderful writer.
It's true, writing one's profile information isnt as easy as it seems, it took me quite some time to write mine too.
I cringe every time I have to write a profile. There's never been one that I've been happy with. It's so much easier to write one for someone else! Maybe that's what I need to do, pretend I'm someone else, for the sake of getting that profile written.
Many of us struggle with finding that elusive quality called "a voice." I know I do. I think to write that compelling profile, or resume for that matter, the voice has to come through. I also think everyone has one, but it doesn't always make itself accessible.
I'm looking forward to listening to your voice often.
Great hub. Love your style of writing. I look forward to more.
The trouble with writing a profile is that you want to write something that will attract reader. I so want to make up a pack of ridiculous, yet, entertaining lies. It would be fun.
I just write whatever. I love when future employers ask you to tell them a little bit about yourself. Like which angle do i go for, the "people person, very punctual" angle, or the "well i like jazz..." angle. lol
Hmmmm - think I will re-do my profile :) Seriously, your hub is so good. And oh my - the aphorism - I laughed so hard. Thanks for teaching me just what I need to learn.
You are such a good mother and I wish you all the joy your heart can hold.
Blades: Love your sense of humor and your strength. Great beginning. I am eager to read more of your work. Thanks for joining the hubpages co. :)
I need to rewrite my bio - kind of boring. Good hub and worth a thumbs up.
